Arkansas-Little Rock 11-8 (5-3)
Arkansas-Little Rock has won 3 out of their last 4 in Sun Belt play and sits atop the west division. They have wins over Troy, Monroe, Western, North Texas, and Florida International. They have been defeated by South Al, Lafayette, and Troy in their second meeting. Will Neighbour and freshman guard John Gillon are leading the way for the Trojans, averaging 11.4 and 10.8 points per game respectively. Little Rock will visit east division leader Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro this Thursday before heading to Diddle Arena on Saturday. Their contest against WKU will tipoff at 6:00PM.
Arkansas State 10-7 (4-4)
It's good to see both Arkansas school on top in the west. If you have been to Hot Springs for the Sun Belt tournament, you know how crazy it gets when these teams square off. With a little over half of conference games to play, unless North Texas can pick it up, these two schools will probably finish first and second. The Red Wolves have lost to FIU twice, FAU, and ULL in their second meeting. They have notched victories against ULL, WKU, MTSU, and USA. Ed Townsel is averaging 15.6 points per game on 39% shooting from the field. Senior forward Brandon Peterson is scoring 11 points per game while pulling down 9.3 boards per game. A player we should watch as the season continues is senior guard Trey Finn. Finn has the talent to take control for John Brady's bunch and is one of the better rebounding guards in the conference. Arkansas State will be visiting Diddle on February 9th.
Louisiana-Lafayette 7-12 (3-5)
The Ragin' Cajuns will be rolling into Bowling Green losing four of their last six Sun Belt games. Victories over conference foes include North Texas, Little Rock, and Arkansas State. ULL has been defeated by Arkansas State in their first game, Middle Tennessee, the Floridians, and South Alabama. The Cajuns are being led by a pair of sophomores, Shawn Long and Eldrif Payton, who are scoring 15.7 and 14.7 points per game. Both players are shooting above 44% from the field. Their contest with WKU on Thursday is 70's night in Diddle Arena. Take advantage of $1.00 tickets and great food discounts. Remember to wear your snazziest 70's outfits!
North Texas 7-11 (2-5)
It's been a dismal start to the season for the Mean Green faithful. Picked to finish first in the west, North Texas hasn't had much to brag about thus far. The return of Tony Mitchell has not made as big of an impact as most would have thought. Mitchell is however leading the Mean Green in points and rebounds, averaging 14.9 and 9 per game. North Texas has wins against Troy and South Alabama. They have dropped games to Lafayette, Western, Middle, Monroe, and Little Rock. North Texas will hit the road to this week, taking on the Floridians. Western Kentucky will visit Denton on February 7th.
Louisiana-Monroe 3-10 (2-5)
Shew, what is there to say? The Warhawks are probably ready for football season to roll back around. They are one of the statistically worst teams in the nation for scoring and rebounding. They have beat Florida Atlantic at home and North Texas on the road. They have lost to Western, South Al, Troy, Middle, and Little Rock. The Warhawks will visit Bowling Green on February 21st.
