Tops roll past the Rajin' Cajuns

Alas, the three game losing streak is over!

The Toppers played an overall good game Thursday night, chalking up a 72-49 win over the Ragin' Cajuns.

Louisiana Lafayette came into the game leading the Sun Belt in scoring offense. The 49 point performance is their lowest of the season. Credit the Toppers zone defense in the second half to holding the Ragin' Cajun to just 28% shooting from the field.

Brandon Harris led the way for the Toppers on Thursday night with a 16 point, nine rebound, and 5 assist effort in front of 4,914 spectators-the second largest crowd of the season.

We also got to see extended minutes from Louisville native, Percy Blade. Blade gave a solid 21 minutes effort, scoring five points and pulling down ten boards.

Blade wasn't the only man rebounding the basketball on Thursday night.

Teeng Akol earned a double-double last night with his 13 point, ten rebound performance. Most of Akol's points came from jump-shots, knocking down one three-pointer. He also collected four blocked shots and one goal-Teeng.

The Hilltoppers started the game in a familiar fashion- slow. WKU went back and forth with the Cajuns for the majority of the first half.

With about five minutes left in the period, Harper made the switch to a zone defense that gave Louisiana Lafayette fits.

The Tops held ULL without a point for the final 5:16 of the first half, rattling off 13 straight of their own. An energized team went into the locker room with 32-21 lead.

WKU is now 8-1 this season when leading at halftime.

The Toppers continued their domination in the second half, extending their scoring run to 17 straight.

At the 8:25 mark, WKU had put the lead at 25 points and never looked back.

I think we saw some great play out of many different players this game.

George Fant's post moves looked good for the most part. Once he becomes a more consistent finisher, his potential in the Sun Belt is limitless.

Aleksejs Rostove gave the Hilltoppers seven points and five rebounds on 27 minutes of playing time. Rostov shot 0-4 from behind the arc and only 1-5 for the game. He did play good defense though which gave him more minutes.

TJ Price had a 13 point performance on 50% shooting.

Although the Tops started off slow they got on a good run late in the first half. That's what good teams do. I was glad to see the in-game adjustments from Harper that led to the Tops pulling away.

I love watching exciting games but I was glad to see us in control of this one.

When Jamal Crook gets back this team is gonna be nasty.

Watch out, Sun Belt.

The Hilltoppers will have a rematch with Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday night in Diddle Arena. Tipoff is at 5:00 PM.
