Fla. RB commits to Hilltoppers

Liberty (Fla.) running back Markenzy Pierre becomes the latest verbal commitment for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in the 2017 class.

"They really showed that they wanted me and I was number one on their board and willing to make me the center piece in their offense," Pierre said of his decision.

"Also, Coach (Chris) Barclay did a great job at building a great relationship. He is a very honest guy, that's what is great about him."

As a junior, Pierre was named 1st Team All-State running back in class 7A, rushing for 1,677 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also caught 17 passes for 325 yards and four touchdowns.

The 6-foot, 210-pound prospect chose the Hilltoppers over offers from Memphis, Appalachian State, East Carolina, Florida International, Middle Tennessee, Kent State, and others.

Pierre joins Locust Grove (Ga.) product Caleb Huntley as running backs currently committed to Western Kentucky.
