JUCO: Five 2024 Prospects The Tops Should Get Aggressive For

Between the transfer portal and junior collegiate prospects, it’s valuable to gain athletes on the roster that have collegiate experience. While there isn’t a definitive transfer portal outlook until December, we can start to get an idea of junior college prospects that could prove to be assets come 2024.

Here are some the Hilltoppers should get aggressive for early:

Deion Smith, WR, Holmes Community College: Holmes CC has played just one game so far, and Smith was a major key in the Dogs 31-0 victory. Against Pearl River CC, Smith hauled in four receptions for 147 yards and a touchdown. A dynamic receiver, Smith is a smooth route runner that does a good job creating separation at the intermediate level, pulling in catches with strong, reliable hands.

Tre Richardson, WR, Hutchinson Community College: Richardson is an exceptionally quick receiver that plays with a high motor and intent for the end zone. Having just played in one game so far in his 2023 campaign, Richardson has pulled in three receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown. The young receiver is also a dynamic kickoff returner, having returned two kickoffs, recording 113 yards and a touchdown.

Jaden Hamlin, IDL, Southwest Mississippi Community College: Let me clarify that this is a guy the Hilltoppers have already offered. Hopefully, the Hilltoppers can close the deal and get him aboard because Hamlin is a high-motor space-eater that the Tops need in the interior. In 2022, Hamlin recorded 32 total tackles for the Bears.

Luther Richesson, QB, Golden West College: Richesson is a quarterback I’ve wanted to see on the Hill since his final season at the Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. Instead, Richesson enrolled at Cincinnati for the 2022 season before transferring out fairly early, landing at Golden West for 2023. So far, Richesson is nine-for-twelve on 70 yards and a touchdown, including one other on the ground.

Churchill Williams V, DB, New Mexico Military Institute: A lot of evaluators like one sentence summaries of prospects, so here’s one for you: a scrappy, downhill defender with a knack for getting to the ball quickly. Through three games, Williams has recorded 22 tackles, an interception, four forced fumbles, and two blocked punts. Fits the Upton Stout pedigree.

While the 2024 recruiting cycle (and future ones) isn’t even close to done, the Hilltoppers have the opportunity to put together a very strong class.
