Lutz hires Tim MacAllister as new Assistant Coach
WKU head coach Steve Lutz announced the newest addition to the Hilltoppers' coaching staff on Monday morning, revealing Tim MacAllister as the program's next assistant coach.
MacAllister will be entering his fifth-consecutive season as an assistant coach and his first on The Hill in the 2023-24 season. He was the assistant coach for Georgia Southern for the last three seasons.
The newest addition of the Hilltoppers' coaching staff will be bringing winning experience to Western Kentucky as he helped Texas Tech during a national title run.
MacAllister has made appearances in five NCAA Tournaments, has worked with four All-Americans and has helped multiple talented players who are now playing in the NBA.
A few notable players that have worked with MacAllister are Murray State's Isaiah Canaan (2013), Creighton's Justin Patton (2017), Khyri Thomas (2018) and Texas Tech's Jarrett Culver (2019) and Jahmi'us Ramsey (2020).
MacAllister was a key member of the Red Raiders' coaching staff when Texas Tech made it to the 2019 NCAA National Championship game and the Big 12 Conference regular season championship game during his first season as the program's Chief of Staff.
With Texas Tech in the 2018-19 season, MacAllister helped lead to their first Big 12 regular-season championship, appearance in the Final Four and a 31-7 overall record, the best record in program history.
MacAllister was additionally named to the NABC's 2019 Under Armour 30-Under-30 Team as he was honored as one of 30 best college basketball coaches under the age of 30.
He additionally spent three seasons at Creighton, leading the Bluejays to an NIT Quarterfinals appearance in the 2016 campaign. MacAllister also led Creighton to the NCAA Tournament in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. MacAllister and Lutz served on the Bluejay's coaching staff all three seasons.
Macallister initially began his career in college basketball as a student assistant to Murray State when the Racers won both the OVC regular-season and tournament championships in the 2011-12 season, logging an impressive 31-2 record.
Before his career at both Creighton and Texas Tech, MacAllister spent one season as an assistant coach at Emory University, located in Atlanta, GA. That season, MacAllister helped Emory knock off No. 1 Wisconsin-Stevens Point to reach the Division III Elite Eight before a tough loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Hilltoppers' new assistant coach is originally from Corcoran, CA. and was born in Grand Forks, N.D. He played both football and basketball for Logan County High School in Russelville, KY.
