First, it was defensive line coach Kevin Peoples. Now, it appears that offensive line coach Mike Summers is the latest staff member to be lured away from Bobby Petrino's staff.
Reports began surfacing last night that Lane Kiffin and the USC Trojans have hired Summers to be their new offensive line coach. Of course, the Trojans are making a multitude of coaching moves after a disappointing 7-6 season where many expected them to hoist the crystal ball of success during the preseason.
Before his apparent brief stint at Western Kentucky, Summers coached at Kentucky under Joker Phillips. He also coached on Petrino's staff at Louisville and Arkansas.
Summers becomes the second assistant coach to leave the new staff at WKU. Back on January 12th, defensive line coach Kevin Peoples was hired away by UAB to the same position.
Peoples was replaced by Don Dunn, who served as director of high school relations at Texas Tech the previous three years. Before that, Dunn served as the defensive line coach for 10 years at Auburn under Tommy Tuberville.
Now, it seems Petrino will once again be in search of a suitable replacement for Summers.
