It is being reported that Hampton University receivers coach Lamar Thomas has accepted the same position at Western Kentucky. Sources confirmed that Bobby Petrino had offered Thomas the position back on Wednesday, December 19th. The hire has not yet been confirmed by the WKU athletic department.
Thomas played wide receiver at the University of Miami from 1988-1992, back when "The U" was running wild and in the national spotlight. Thomas was drafted in third round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1993 and played seven seasons in the NFL for the Bucs and Dolphins. He has spent the last three seasons as Hampton's wide receivers coach.
It appears that Petrino has also offered the defensive coordinator position to Nick Holt, who has spent the past season as the on-campus recruiting coordinator at Arkansas. Prior to his stint with the Razorbacks, Holt was a defensive coordinator at Washington for three seasons but was fired after RG3 and Baylor torched the Husky defense for 777 yards in last year's Alamo Bowl. Indeed, a forgettable night for Holt. He also previously spent time as the defensive coordinator/line coach at USC and was the head coach at Idaho from 2004-05.
It has indeed been a busy week for Petrino, who officially hired former Arkansas defensive tackle/line coach Kevin Peoples to the same position at WKU.
It's early, but expect more coaches with Arkansas ties to join Petrino at WKU.
