Western Kentucky added some major defensive firepower to the roster this week, landing a commitment from West Florida (D2) transfer defensive back Anthony Johnson Jr.

Johnson is the second transfer from the Argos to commit to the Hilltoppers, following in the footsteps of his old teammate and good friend Austin Reed, who played a big role in his ultimate decision.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect out of Miami, FL. sat down with InsideHilltopperSports.com to go in-depth on his commitment to Western Kentucky.

Johnson said it feels great to be a Hilltopper as he committed due to how his overall recruitment process went, how the coaches care about their players both on and off the field and how Western Kentucky runs their program.

"It feels great to be a Hilltopper. I committed because of how my recruitment process went. I feel like the coaches really care about you not just as a person but as a player. I also love the way they run the program."

Johnson said that also played a significant role in his decision as he wanted to commit right after his conversation with Reed.

"I played with Austin Reed at UWF, he was a good friend of mine. After I entered the portal, he gave me a call and told me about WKU and how things were in Bowling Green. That was the deal breaker, I wanted to commit after that call."
