WKU Falls Short To St Joes In Opener

Langston Galloway scored 19 points and Carl Jones 16 to lead Saint Joseph's to a 72-61 victory over Western Kentucky Friday night in the opener for both teams.

The Hawks shot 49 percent (24 of 49) in the game to 26.5 percent (18 of 68) for the Hilltoppers. Last season, when Western Kentucky beat Saint Joseph's 98-70 in Philadelphia, the Hilltoppers shot 60.9 percent for the game and 72.4 percent in the second half.
Saint Joseph's, which led for all but the first minute of the game, had a 54-42 lead with 7:30 remaining, but Western Kentucky went on a 9-2 run to make it 56-51. Galloway gave the Hawks some breathing room with a three-point play and a 3-pointer for a 62-51 advantage with 2:45 to play.
C.J. Aiken added 12 points and blocked five shots for Saint Joseph's.
Western Kentucky's Derrick Gordon led all scorers with 25 points.
