The Hilltoppers added considerable strength to next year's roster this week, landing a commitment from Dallen Ponder, a high-level athlete prospect out of Vanguard (Fla.) in the class of 2024.

The 5-foot-10, 176-pound recruit out of Ocala, FL. sat down with InsideHilltopperSports.com to detail his commitment to Western Kentucky, revealing what ultimately led to his decision.

Ponder said that what led to his commitment to the Hilltoppers was hearing from WKU assistant coach and running backs coach Andre Crenshaw that head coach Tyson Helton was fond of his film.

He added that Coach Helton said he reminds him of wide receiver Malachi Corley and is pleased he can play both slot receiver and running back.

"What led to my decision was hearing Coach Crenshaw tell me what the head coach thought after watching my film. He said I remind him of Malachi Corley. He loves that I'm versatile and that I'm coming in to play slot receiver and running back."

Ponder said that it feels great to officially be a Hilltopper. He added that he will be taking an official visit to Western Kentucky either during this upcoming season or after depending on his schedule.

Ponder is coming off a recent unofficial visit to Western Kentucky. He said that what stood out to him about The Hill was the training facility, the coaching staff and the bond that the Hilltoppers have with each other.

"Yes, I'll be taking an official visit during the season or after depending on how my schedule is set up. And it feels great becoming a Hilltopper. I'm excited for this new journey."

The Hilltoppers jumped into the mix for Ponder's recruitment this past Spring as he connected with Coach Crenshaw and WKU assistant coach and outside linebackers coach Jamar Chaney.

Ponder initially connected with Coach Chaney, collecting an offer from Western Kentucky after one of his practices. Ponder then met Coach Crenshaw at the Mercer Mega Camp.

Western Kentucky wasn't the only school involved in Ponder's recruitment as he also held offers from Florida Atlantic and Ohio.
