WKU picks up sixth straight win, defeating Cal Baptist 73-70

Western Kentucky (10-3) picked up their sixth-straight win in Riverside on Tuesday night, recording a close 73-70 road victory over Cal Baptist (7-4) at the CBU Events Center.

In addition to recording the first-ever win over the Lancers, the Hilltoppers are now 10-3 on the season, which matches the best 13-game start for Western Kentucky since the 2004-05 campaign.

Western Kentucky shot 41.3% (26-63) from the floor, 44.4% (8-18) from beyond the arc and 65.0% (13-20) from the free throw line in two frames of play. The Hilltoppers also picked up a grand total of 42 rebounds on the night.

WKU redshirt senior guard Dontaie Allen led the Hilltoppers on the night, dropping 17 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.

Another Hilltopper to establish himself was WKU junior guard Don McHenry, who collected 14 points, three rebounds, four assists and one block.

WKU junior forward Babacar Faye and senior forward Tyrone Marshall were also crucial to the Hilltoppers' success, earning nine points each. Redshirt senior guard Brandon Newman put up seven points and led the team in rebounding with a total of 12.

Cal Baptist shot 40.6% (26-64) from the field, 17.4% (4-23) from three-point range and 60.9% (14-23) from the free throw line. The Lancers also outrebounded the Hilltoppers 43-42 in two frames.

CBU Junior guard Dominique Daniels Jr. led the Lancers on the night, dropping 32 points, one rebound, two assists and one steal.

Graduate forward Yvan Ouedraogo also made a considerable impact for the Lancers, picking up 11 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block.

CBU junior forward Hunter Goodrick also made his presence known for the Lancers, collecting a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, one steal and one block.

The Hilltoppers entered the locker room with a 42-28 lead over the Lancers and managed to maintain their lead in the second half of competition despite a surge from their opponent in the second frame of play.

Western Kentucky is set to close out non-conference play at E.A. Diddle Arena on Saturday, Dec. 30th as the Hilltoppers host Abilene Christian. The opening tip is slated for 2 p.m. CT as the game will air on ESPN+.
