There's been a few candidates, but today, the Red team got its first man.

Sophomore defensive lineman Jamarcus Allen was selected and 'signed' on as the Red team's first free agent. He'll now get a week free of breakfast checks as part of his reward, as well as playing a key role for the Red team.
"To be the first free agent, it means a lot because it shows that I'm improving a lot to the coaching staff on both teams," Allen said. "I'll be one of the key players to their team and it shows I can produce during the spring game."
With other talent on the Toppers also vying for the free agency spots, Allen said he didn't think he would be selected.
"It was a surprise," he said. "I didn't think I'd be first at all. I thought I'd be picked on some team and I know I would've played, but I didn't think I'd be first. I thought they'd take a skill guy over me."
Now, Allen said he'll be even more focused and ready to go for the spring game on April 16.
"I just need to continue what I've been doing throughout the spring, produce, treat the spring game just like practice or like a game, even the scout team," he said. "I need to go out there and have some fun with it and not take it so serious, but do my job at the same time."
Shortly after Allen 'signed' on, the White team selected junior defensive end Jared Clendenin as its defensive free agent. Both teams will still select an offensive free agent. Check back for more exclusive updates.
