Brandon Doughty is just like any other guy on the face of the planet. He wakes up every morning, eats his breakfast, and goes along with his day.
Although, there a few categories that separate him from your everyday man.
Doughty is a football player. He has been ever since he was around five years old or so.
"When I was in the back yard when I was five years old, I was thinking I was Dan Marino, you know," Doughty said.
Doughty is a Davie, Florida native, who attended school at North Broward Prep, where he was the football team's quarterback. As he was a senior in 2009 and was seeking to get exposure from college coaches, not many big-name programs reached out.
Former Western Kentucky head coach Willie Taggart did, though. He offered the 6-foot-3 inch passer a scholarship to play football on The Hill. He committed and signed to play for Taggart and the Hilltoppers in 2010 and redshirted his first season.
"We knew when he came in as a freshman he had something to him," Taggart said. "He's such a student of the game."
After Taggart left for the South Florida job in 2012, Bobby Petrino came in. He would now be Doughty's teacher.
It was once rumored that Doughty had considered ending his WKU career altogether in 2013 when Petrino opted to bench him before a game against Morgan State - the QB said it was just a miscommunication.
He stuck with it, though, and started every game from there-on-out, where he went 26-9 overall.
Doughty picked up his very last win in a Hilltopper uniform on Monday, as he helped No. 25 Western Kentucky close a remarkable season with a 45-35 win over South Florida, the team his former coach is now at, in the Miami Beach Bowl at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida. He threw for 461 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.
Monday's contest would conclude the quarterback's six-seasons with the WKU program.
Doughty led the team to heights it's never been at it before.
In the 30 career wins he's been a part of as a Hilltopper, he's thrown for 9,104 yards, completed 72.2 percent of his passes and went for 88 total touchdowns.
"Like I've been saying, I think God's just taken a red carpet and said, 'Just follow me.' My journey's been unbelievable," Doughty said.
Doughty leaves the college game ranked 15th in NCAA history with 111 career touchdown passes, 16th with 12,855 yards and 23rd with 1,023 completions.
"Numbers mean nothing - I'll tell my kids about it one day," Doughty said. "The thing I'll take with me is all the victories. This has truly been the most fun year I've ever had as a football player, and I've been playing for a long time."
"It's been a heckuva run, but hopefully this is just a start for me," Doughty concluded at his last postgame press conference as a Hilltopper after the bowl game.
His journey is indeed just getting started.
Doughty is said to be a NFL Draft pick and will continue his dynamic play at the next level.
Western Kentucky may not ever have a quarterback put up numbers like Doughty did, or have a team reach the heights it did in 2015.
All in all, Brandon Doughty definitely started unknown and finished unforgettable.
