Zach Lankford has done a great job with the Western Kentucky offensive line, where his offensive line finished fifth in the nation in overall passing blocking (84.6), according to Pro Football Focus.
Entering his second season as the offensive line coach, and again in an air raid-style offense, Lankford continues the search for natural pass blockers.
Enter, Javaris Adams.
STRENGTHS:
• Textbook Technique vs. Pass Rush: Adams caught me off guard with his abilities against the pass rush. His footwork was polished, his kickback was balanced, his shoulders square and hand contact was impactful.
• Upfield Quickness: When he moved to the second level on screen passes or pulled to block a defender, Adams moved with physicality and quickness to create lead blocks.
• Natural Left Tackle: Adams looks very comfortable and exceptional as a left tackle. All of his movements are fluid, strong, and intentional.
• Run Blocking: The film says he's a gnarly run blocker, able to impose his will and force his defender into spots to create traffic.
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT:
• Eyes up! Adams is an exceptional run blocker, but he constantly blinded himself and accidentally put the ball carrier in compromising spots.
• Lost a couple of blocks early
Adams is going to be a high impact player sooner rather than later for the Tops. In an Air Raid offense as a natural pass blocker, Adams will find a lot of success on the Hill.
