Throughout fall camp, InsideHilltopperSports.com is catching up with some of the newcomers on the football team. Monday, we spoke with freshman running back Garland LaFrance. Here is what the New Orleans native had to say.
- On fall camp and adjusting to college football?
"It's going good. The pace of college football is fast, but I'm adjusting to it real good and I'm surprising myself really."
- On your mindset coming in getting repetitions and playing time?
"I really didn't come here to redshirt, so I'm really going after it."
- On the biggest differences between high school and college football?
"The speed of the game. It's fast, it's quick, and you gotta know everything and you gotta be on point and I'm really adjusting to that good."
- On his skills as a running back?
"I'm a real shifty back that can be used inside and outside really, but mostly outside."
- On your recruiting overall process?
"I was committed to Tulane the summer before my senior year and then I decommitted and committed to Texas Tech my whole senior season, and then I decommitted from Texas Tech. It was Western Kentucky and Southern Miss as my last two options and I picked Western Kentucky."
- On what he knew about Western Kentucky at first during the recruiting process?
"I really didn't know much. I didn't know how it looked or anything. They wanted me to come on a visit so I took my visit and I liked everything about it."
- On what stood out about WKU during his visit?
"I really didn't expect the campus to be this good. The facilities and everything really stuck out and I was really impressed by it and the coaches made it feel like home."
- On what he likes about your position coach, Mike Sanford, Sr., so far?
"He's really good. He's really detailed in everything I need to catch up on and he helps me. Everything I mess up on he helps me. He's a real good coach."
- On the opportunity in fall camp to impress the coaching staff:
"I've been doing good in fall camp and I'm looking to do better. I know I'm going to do better. I'm looking forward to getting on that bus for Wisconsin."
- On what you want to improve on the most between now and the Wisconsin game?
"My weight. I want to add more weight and ball security."
- On what he's learned from the upperclassmen so far?
"Ferby and Trigg they are teaching me that I have to be more patient because in high school I was just hittin' it and they taught me to be more patient in college, but once you see it you have to hit it and I've been doing that so far."
