Throughout fall camp, InsideHilltopperSports.com is catching up with some of the newcomers on the football team. Tuesday, we spoke with freshman defensive tackle Lichon Terrell. Here is what the Georgia native had to say.
- How has your summer and fall been going adjusting to college life and fall camp so far?
"The summer went pretty good. I adjusted pretty quick in the classroom and weight room. Fall camp, there is a lot of competition in front of me and I'm just grinding day in and day out. I'm learning from the old guys and they are teaching me a lot. We all want to be on the field."
- What's the biggest difference now compared to this time last year when you were in fall camp at the high school level?
"It's a big difference. The competition in practice is a big difference. In high school you go against the scout team and you go against little kids. Here, I'm going up against grown men everyday that are trying to get on the field."
- What have you learned from the upperclassmen in your position group so far?
"Julien Lewis and Evan Sayner, they kind of took me the freshman in. We laugh and joke, but when it's time to get serious they put it on us and they want us to succeed like they did."
- Under the new rule, freshman can play in four games and still get a redshirt, is that a motivating factor for you and the others?
"It's really good because going into college I knew you played no games redshirting or you're out there on the field. So, when the four game rule hit the surface it helped me put out but I'm still out here trying to prove my point and play all the games this season."
- Go back to your recruiting process and talk about WKU getting involved with you initially and what you liked about the program?
"Western was my second or third offer. I took four visits here over a span of seven months and they always been my favorite. Coach (Jimmy) Lindsey, Coach (Kenny) Martin, and Coach (Mike) Sanford - they took me in. I heard from Coach Lindsey everyday."
- What have you learned from your position coach, Kenny Martin, so far?
"He's a technician. He's going to push you and he sees what we can do when we don't see it, so he's hard on us, but we know it's for the better."
- For Hilltopper fans that haven't watched you play yet, what do you bring to the table?
"I'm a very agile defensive tackle. I move very well for my size. You're going to see a lot of explosive plays coming from me."
- Your nickname is Hollywood, talk about where that came from?
"When I was a little kid I was always smiling and dancing, so everybody thought I was going to be a star."
