Attention! We have a winning streak! The Hilltoppers won their third consecutive game on Thursday night with a 79-73 victory over South Alabama inside the friendly confines of Diddle Arena.
WKU used another stellar shooting effort (48.1%) to fend off multiple second half rallies by the Jaguars, who were led in scoring by Augustine Rubit with 23 points and nine rebounds.
The Tops built their largest lead in the second half by a score of 62-48. But, the Jaguars clawed (shameless pun) their way back into the game, cutting the margin to three after an Antoine Allen free throw with 1:40 remaining.
However, the Hilltoppers D'd up and George Fant and T.J. Price were able to sink some clutch-money free throws to seal the deal.
WKU improves to 16-14 overall, 10-9 in Conference U...I mean, the Sun Belt Conference.
Player of the Game: Brandon Harris. The junior gets my "Cap'n Hustle" award with his 12 point, 8 rebound, and 3 assist performance. He also went 3-5 from 3-point range, a true marksmen from that magic land beyond the arc.
Bench Mob: Once again, the Hilltoppers bench was big, outscoring the Jaguars by a 30-7 margin. Along with Harris, O'Karo Akamune logged quality minutes off the pine with eight points and four rebounds and Kevin Kaspar chipped in with six points. In other news, Stephon Drane scored one point.
Quote of the Night: "I feel bad for them. That's a long way to drive home sad after we send them home with that L." Brandon Harris on MTSU fans coming to Saturday's game.
Next Up: Two words: Middle Tennessee. Many usually lace expletives either before, between, or after those two words. For all you Hilltoppers out there, heed the advice of hip-hoppers House of Pain and "Get Out Ya Seat and Jump Around - Jump, Jump, Jump, Everybody Jump!"
