WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!! MY RED TOWEL FRIENDS!!
For me, singing is always easier in an article (it sure as hell sounds a lot better too) and on Tuesday evening masses of Hilltopper faithful sang loudly as they welcomed the 2013 Sun Belt champs back to Bowling Green with a pep rally.
As the bus of champions pulled into the U.S. Bank entrance at E.A. Diddle Arena, fans eagerly anticipated the sight of players emerging from the bus. Leading the Hilltoppers towards the throngs of admirers was non-other than senior point guard Jamal Crook with the Sun Belt Conference championship trophy in hand.
As the players joyously lined up alongside the bus, a ladder was placed in front of the crowd and head coach Ray Harper grabbed the magic red and white megaphone (which has probably been around since the Diddle era) and addressed the crowd with many thank you's.
Harper handed the mic to his senior leader Jamal Crook, George Fant then addressed the crowd, then Fant passed the mic to Brandon Harris. Everyone wanted to hear from T.J. Price, but he played the "shy" card and nobody really complained afterall Price dominated the conference tournament, earning MVP honors.
Players and coaches hung out and mingled with fans - posing for pictures, signing autographs, and doing some interviews.
Harper mentioned that this is the first time in Sun Belt history that a team has won back-to-back conference tournament titles having to win four games both times.
One thing is for sure, when the situation is win or go home. Ray Harper knows how to win and advance!
See you at the selection show on Sunday at Diddle Arena, doors open at 4 p.m.
