Following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft, WKU defensive back Kahlef Hailassie, a significant piece of the Hilltoppers' defense last season, inked an undrafted free agency contract with the New York Jets.

Hailassie transferred to Western Kentucky from Oregon prior to the start of the 2021 campaign, contributing to the Hilltoppers' defense as a cornerback.

In two seasons at Western Kentucky, Hailassie was one of the most significant defensive contributors on the Hilltoppers' roster, earning All-Conference USA honors both seasons.

Hailassie earned C-USA Honorable Mention in the 2021 season before collecting C-USA Second Team accolades in the 2022 campaign.

In 23 contests at Western Kentucky, Hailassie recorded 108 total tackles, including 11 tackles for loss and three sacks. Hailassie was also a threat in the backfield, hauling in three interceptions while breaking up 16 passes.

Under WKU defensive coordinator Tyson Summers in 2022, Hailassie helped lead the Hilltoppers' defense in forced turnovers, forcing two while making one recovery.

Prior to his collegiate start at Oregon, the 6-1, 200-pound cornerback out of Elk Grove, CA. was a three-star recruiting target with a 5.5 rating.
