South Warren (Ky.) standout athlete Tomi Mustapha has been a huge reason the Spartans have made deep playoff runs each of the past two seasons. Helping bring home a state championship last season, Mustapha was pivotal in the passing game.
"I started out as a cornerback my sophomore year then moved to receiver as well," said Mustapha. "In college I'd be fine playing receiver or defensive back."
Mustapha has received a preferred walk-on offer from WKU, but has not made his commitment yet. He says he has also received offers from in-state schools Morehead State and Centre College.
"WKU is a great environment. The people were very nice to me and continue to check up on me," claimed Mustapha when asked about what he thought about his visit to The Hill. "Coach Grant keeps in touch with me pretty often."
When asked about how he thinks the Hilltoppers will use his skill set if he commits the state champ kept it simple.
"Receiver," said Mustapha.
The South Warren Spartans put up a class 5A high 624 points last season. While not as high scoring this season, they remain in the top 10 in class 5A scoring.
Mustapha's ability to run precise and quick routes is definitely his niche in this offense. Take a look at his Junior season highlights to see the array of hitches, comebacks and curls the gifted athlete runs so well.
"I think they spread the ball around really well," expressed Mustapha when asked about WKU's offense. "Everybody gets touches and has a chance to make a play. That suits me well, and that's the type of offense I'd like to be in."
