New WKU head football coach Bobby Petrino has officially introduced seven assistant coaches to his staff on Tuesday morning.
As we all know, Petrino cut ties with all assistant coaches that served under former head coach Willie Taggart after the Little Caesars Bowl. A move that should have absolutely shocked nobody!
While previous assistants Raymond Woodie, Nick Sheridan, and Walt Wells have already landed on their feet at Taggart's new digs, the University of South Florida. Others, like defensive line coach/recruting coordinator Eric Mathies and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry are left looking for jobs. Both will surely get opportunities elsewhere in the near future as the college football season winds down and coaching conferences heat up.
Parting truly is sweet sorrow when it comes to head coaching turnover.
Now, as WKU football makes the transition from the old to the new, here are the seven new assistant coaches that Bobby Petrino has added to his staff at Western Kentucky:
Ricky Brumfield -(special teams/cornerbacks)
Mike Cassity - (secondary)
Kevin Peoples - (defensive ends/recruiting coordinator)
L.B. Scott - (defensive tackles)
Kolby Smith - (running backs)
Mike Summers - (offensive line)
Lamar Thomas - (wide receivers)
According to this list, their still appears to be a need for an offensive and defensive coordinator.
Nick Holt appears to be the leading candidate for defensive coordinator. Holt is currently the on-campus recruiting coordinator at Arkansas and previously served as Washington's D-coordinator from 2008-11.
