Western Kentucky added some major defensive firepower to the roster this week, landing a commitment from West Florida (D2) transfer defensive back Anthony Johnson Jr.
Johnson is the second transfer from the Argos to commit to the Hilltoppers, following in the footsteps of his old teammate and good friend Austin Reed, who played a big role in his ultimate decision.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect out of Miami, FL. sat down with InsideHilltopperSports.com to go in-depth on his commitment to Western Kentucky.
Johnson said it feels great to be a Hilltopper as he committed due to how his overall recruitment process went, how the coaches care about their players both on and off the field and how Western Kentucky runs their program.
After entering his name into the transfer portal, Johnson said he connected with Reed over the phone and was told about how things are run in Bowling Green.
Johnson said that also played a significant role in his decision as he wanted to commit right after his conversation with Reed.
Johnson said that he connected with WKU director of player personnel Travis Taylor as well as assistant coach and defensive backs coach Da'Von Brown.
He added that Coach Taylor texted him everday to check in while Coach Brown explained how everything woild work.
Johnson said that he hasn't made it up to Western Kentucky yet for an official visit but he will be on campus soon.
With West Florida in the 2022 campaign, Johnson made a considerable impact for the Argos, recording 44 tackles, nine pass break-ups and three interceptions.
