Much like Austin Powers, the Hilltopper mojo keeps rolling as Western Kentucky hosted 15 football recruits this past weekend and landed three more verbal commits in Vestavia Hill (Ala.) defensive end Kalvin Robinson, George Jenkins (Fla.) defensive end Tanner Reeves, and Bob Jones (Ala.) linebacker Drew Davis.
Robinson is a two-star prospect that originally committed to UAB back in September when current WKU offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Jeff Brohm was on the Blazers' staff.
I caught up with Robinson and got his impressions of his official visit to WKU this past weekend, "Everything went well, from the campus to the coaches, I fell in love with it. It's a really good school and I'm looking forward to being a Hilltopper for the next four years."
"The campus is actually breathtaking, I fell in love when I walked inside the football facilities and I saw the weight room and the coaches' room and everything. It shows to me they actually care about their sports and they care about their athletes succeeding. Also, when it comes to the coaches, I couldn't ask for a better group of coaches. Coach (Nick) Holt has coached many NFL players and coach Petrino has had a lot of success at the BCS level. I'm looking forward to taking this coaching staff to another BCS bowl game."
The 6-foot-5, 227-pounder joins fellow Vestavia Hills (Ala.) teammate Marcus Ward as Hilltopper commits for the class of 2013.
"It feels great to know I have somebody from home, we've been playing football together ever since middle school, and so we can just bring on the Rebel tradition and make that a Hilltopper tradition," Robinson stated.
Drew Davis' recruiting process began when WKU defensive coordinator Nick Holt viewed his highlight video, needless to say, interest hasn't let up since. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker recorded some incredible stats his senior season that included 164 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions.
Davis talked about what sold him on committing to the Hilltoppers, "Really, after we did our tour of the campus, I had been thinking about committing all day, I prayed about it. Then coach Petrino started talking about what we needed to do to beat Kentucky in the season opener. That sold me because I wanted to play there (Kentucky) but they overlooked me."
He holds offers from the likes of Murray State, Tennessee-Martin, Tennessee Tech, and Tennessee-Chattanooga. Like the previously mentioned Kalvin Robinson, Davis will join fellow Bob Jones (Ala.) teammate Brandon Ray as WKU commits for the class of 2013.
The recruitment of Tanner Reeves began under the previous coaching staff and has transferred to the current staff under head coach Bobby Petrino. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound defensive end holds offers from Youngstown State, Hawai'i, and is drawing interest from South Florida. He is not rated by Rivals.
