Western Kentucky will be without Marek Nelson in 2019-20 as the incoming junior forward announced Tuesday his intention to transfer from the Hilltopper basketball program. InsideHilltopperSports.com confirmed the news with WKU.
Nelson announced his decision on Twitter, posting, “Where do I start? The campus. The culture. The PEOPLE. WKU has grown me in so many ways these past two years. As a man, as a teammate, as a follower of Christ. Although I am transferring, WKU will always be a place I can call home, and for that, I am grateful.”
Nelson, a 6-foot-7 forward from Plano, Texas, appeared in all 38 games and made one start as a freshman in 2017-18, averaging 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9.2 minutes per game. He made seven starts and played in 18 games as a sophomore a season ago while battling a back injury, scoring 2.7 points and grabbing 1.8 rebounds in 13.7 minutes per outing.
Nelson joins Dalano Banton, Moustapha Diagne, Matt Horton and Jake Ohmer as transfers from WKU this offseason.
