Another week of NFL preseason games in the books, means another edition of Hilltoppers in the NFL. Not all of your favorite Hilltoppers saw the field this week, so we will only touch on those that did. Nonetheless, let's jump right in and discuss the successes of some of your heroes from the hill.

Joel Iyiegbuniwe, ILB Chicago Bears

Joel Iyiegbuniwe is having a sensational preseason, and he followed up his great output with another formidable showing this past Saturday in Indianapolis. Iggy tallied 3 tackles and 2 assisted tackles, all while having a fumble recovery for a touchdown. The former South Warren Spartan has proved his worth on the Bears' defense, and has earned more playing time within that stout linebacking corps.

Despite all of the attention being on Andrew Luck's retirement mid-game, the Bears pulled out the victory over the Colts, 27-17. This was the Bears' first victory of the preseason, as they improve to 1 and 3. Their next test will be at Soldier Field on Thursday night against the Titans.

Taywan Taylor, WR Tennessee Titans

Last week, Taywan Taylor found himself still fighting off several talented receivers in hopes to maintain his WR3 position with Tennessee. This week, Taylor helped his stance, despite the Titans 18-6 loss to the Steelers, on Sunday night. With the loss, the Titans preseason record falls to 1 and 2. In the game, Taylor had 14 yards receiving on 2 catches.

I wouldn't expect Taylor to play much in the fourth preseason game in Chicago on Thursday night, as he is currently a starter on the depth chart, alongside Corey Davis and Adam Humphries.

Mike White, QB Dallas Cowboys

One of the more intriguing battles this preseason among former Hilltoppers, is the one Mike White currently finds himself in. The Cowboys QB, hopes to go by the description of QB2 once the regular season rolls around. But that moniker is easier said than achieved, as White's cohort, Cooper Rush, has given him a run for his money. While White didn't have "eye-popping" numbers in Saturday's 34-0 victory over the Texans, he didn't make any mistakes either. White completed 6 passes on 9 attempts for 56 yards and one touchdown. He also had 1 carry for 4 yards. While Rush more than doubled White's completions, attempts and yardage, he did not throw a touchdown. Nevertheless, White and Rush's efforts helped improve the Cowboys preseason record to 2 and 1.

It remains to be seen what the determining factor will be in the battle for the backup QB spot. But, we'll just have to leave that up to the Cowboys' final preseason game against the Buccaneers on Thursday night.

Mik'Quan Deane, TE (Waived by Cleveland Browns)

Former Hilltoppers tight end, Mik'Quan Deane was waived by the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, August 21st. Deane was waived due to a non-football illness designation, per Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram. Due to Deane having less than four years of NFL experience, he cannot immediately become a free agent, but instead must pass through waivers. This is a process that allows any NFL team to pick up Deane's remaining contract value.

Deane, having already spent time in Seattle and Buffalo, looks to get back to full health before finding his new home. We will make sure to keep you updated on Deane's status within the NFL.

Other Hilltoppers in the NFL (with no stats this week):

Jack Doyle, TE Indianapolis Colts

Tyler Higbee, TE LA Rams

Deon Yelder, TE Kansas City Chiefs

Forrest Lamp, OL LA Chargers

Darrell Williams, OL Baltimore Ravens

George Fant, OL Seattle Seahawks
