BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP)-- Sergio Kerusch scored 26 points and Western Kentucky defeated Florida International 79-66 on Saturday night, becoming the 14th men's basketball program in NCAA Division I history to reach 1,600 wins.
Western Kentucky (19-8, 13-3 Sun Belt Conference) led 16-10 with 10:01 left in the first half before outscoring the Golden Panthers 20-5 until halftime. The Hilltoppers led 36-18 at the break.
Steffphon Pettigrew scored 17 points and A.J. Slaughter added 11 for Western Kentucky. Kerusch, who had 15 points in the first half, also had 12 rebounds.
The Golden Panthers (11-18, 6-10) were led by Freddy Asprilla, who tallied his ninth double-double of the season with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Alex Galindo scored 13 points.
On his second free throw with 8:27 left in the first half, Galindo became the 13th player at FIU to score 1,000 points.
