WKU punches Arkansas in the mouth, becomes bowl eligible

Western Kentucky rolled into Fayetteville and punched Arkansas in the mouth during the first half on their way to a 45-19 win over the Razorbacks.

The win gives the Hilltoppers' their sixth of the season, who now become bowl eligible with two Conference USA games remaining against Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee.

This was Western Kentucky's fourth win over an SEC team - Kentucky twice and Vanderbilt.

Quarter by quarter highlights and key stats from the win are below.

1ST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

- Antwon Kincade interception on Arkansas' opening possession.

- Helton goes for it twice on fourth down on Hilltoppers' first possession, ends in a 19-yard touchdown run by Jacquez Sloan on a WR end around.

***WKU 7 - ARKANSAS 0: SCORING DRIVE: 9 plays, 42 yards in 3:45***

- Rakeem Boyd with a 76-yard TD run up the middle untouched. That was the longest play of the year for the Razorbacks.

***WKU 7 - ARKANSAS 7: SCORING DRIVE: 4 plays, 88 yards in 1:28***

- Ty Storey with a 9-yard TD run to put WKU back on top. Two great throws from Storey, one on the run across his body for a first down and the other flipping it to Jahcour Pearson with a defender draped all over him.

***WKU 14 - ARKANSAS 7: SCORING DRIVE: 12 plays, 75 yards in 6:03***

- Hilltoppers were 3-of-5 on third downs, 2-for-2 on fourth downs (both on opening drive) in the first quarter.

2ND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

- Ty Storey wit the 1-yard plunge for another WKU touchdowns. Tops convert two more fourth downs on an impressive 16-play drive.

- Ty Storey to a wide open Jahcour Pearson for a 69-yard touchdown. Hilltoppers are making it look easy on offense.

***WKU 28 - ARKANSAS 7: SCORING DRIVE: 2 plays, 73 yards in :38***

- Gaej Walker with a 1-yard touchdown run for the Hilltoppers. Another fourth down conversion for WKU, they are 5-for-5 on the day. Ty Storey with an absolute, on-the-money dart to Lucky Jackson down the sideline for 26 yards to set WKU up at the one-yard line.

- Corey Munson with a 19-yard FG to increase WKU's lead. Gaej Walker with a 39-yard run, Storey with a 22-yard run on the next play

- Rakeem Boyd with another long run, this one an 86-yard touchdown romp. Extra-point blocked by WKU.

- Devon Key with a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown.

- K.J. Jefferson scores on a 2-yard run.

KEY STATS:

- Ty Storey had 213 passing yards on 22-of-33 passing and one touchdown. He also tallied 77 rushing yards and two scores in his return to Arkansas.

- Gaej Walker had 23 rushes for 129 yards and one touchdown.

- Jahcour Pearson had 10 catches for 120 yards and one touchdown.

- WKU had 23 first downs compared to 12 for Arkansas.

- WKU was 5-for-5 on 4th down conversions and 9-for-18 on 3rd down conversions.

- WKU ran 79 total plays compared to 54 for Arkansas.

- WKU was also 5-for-5 on red zone opportunities.

- Hilltoppers scored 14 points off two Arkansas turnovers.

- Devon Key led WKU on defense with 7 tackles and one interceptions that was returned 25-yards for a touchdown.

- Kyle Bailey also had 7 tackles, including one pass break-up.
