WKU signs JUCO transfer G Donald McHenry

WKU head coach Steve Lutz added another talented player to the 2023-24 roster this week as Indian Hills C.C. transfer Donald McHenry signed with the Hilltoppers for next season.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard out of Indian Hills C.C. was named an NJCAA DI men's basketball First-Team All-American in April. He was additionally selected to the NABC NJCAA DI All-American team.

Last season, McHenry played in 34 contests for the Warriors, averaging 25 minutes per game. McHenry was named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and was selected to the Region 11 All-Region First-Team.

The native of Milwaukee, WI. also shot 43% from the field, averaging 15.4 points per game. McHenry also shot 36% from the three-point line, sinking 63 shots from beyond the arc. He also picked up 3.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. He also reached double-figure scoring 24 times in the 2022-23 campaign.

McHenry had a season-high 35 points in a victory over Highland College (IL) in January followed by a 26-point performance in the Warriors' opening round of the national tournament between Jan. 14 and Feb. 22. In each of the team's 11 games, McHenry averaged 21.2 points.

Prior to taking the JUCO route, McHenry played for the University of Hawaii-Hilo, starting in 26 games as a a true freshman. McHenry was named to the All-PacWest Third-Team and was the only true freshman in the league to collect post-season accolades.

As a true freshman, McHenry averaged 15.2 points per game and scored in double-figures in 23 of the team's games, hitting 50% of his shots from the field.

In high school, McHenry attended the Milwaukee Academy of Science, leading the state of Wisconsin in scoring with 38 points per game. He was also named to the Wisconsin All-State Team and made it into the school's 1000-point club.
