Georgia Tech transfer C Rodney Howard commits to WKU

The Hilltoppers added another notable transfer target to the roster this week as Georgia Tech transfer center Rodney Howard announced his commitment to Western Kentucky.

The 6-foot-11, 256-pound center out of Ypsilanti, MI. was one of several intriguing center prospects on the Hilltoppers radar as he stopped by Western Kentucky earlier this month for a visit.

Prior to his visit with Western Kentucky, Howard visited with Oregon State. The former three-star recruit has also received interest from Georgetown and Providence.

Howard kickstarted his collegiate career with Georgia, averaging 1.3 points, 1.5 rebounds, 0.1 assists, 0.6 blocks and 0.1 steals per game. He also shot 56.5% from the field and 27.8% from the free throw line.

Following his one-year stint with the Bulldogs, the three-star recruit joined Georgia Tech where he's helped contribute the last three seasons.

During his last season with the Yellow Jackets, Howard averaged 4.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.5 blocks and 0.3 steals. The former three-star recruit also shot 54.5% from field goal range and 57.9% from the free throw line.

During his collegiate career with both programs, Howard has collected 3.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.6 blocks and 0.2 steals. Howard additionally recorded 55.2% shooting from the field and 54.5% shooting from the free throw line.

Howard is the fourth-offseason transfer addition for the Hilltoppers, joining Purdue guard Brandon Newman, College of Charleston forward Babacar Faye and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi guard Jalen Jackson.

New WKU head coach Steve Lutz and his staff have also added JUCO guards Enoch Kalambay and Donald McHenry from Indian Hills (Iowa) Community College. Both following their former head coach, Hank Plona, to Western Kentucky as Plona was recently named an assistant coach at WKU under Lutz.
